BATMAN BEGINS: The Limited Edition is a must have for Batman fans if you don't already have this movie on disk. It overlooks the previous four films in the series and returns to darker roots of the Caped Crusader.  As the title implies, Batman Begins when Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) leaves Gotham to wander the world following the murder of his parents. He eventually becomes a student of a secret martial art to a mysterious instructor named Ducard (Liam Neeson in another mentor role) leader of a league of vigilante ninjas called the League of Shadows. However Bruce follows a higher path of justice and leaves them to return to his native Gotham City only to find it under mob rule.

Co-written by the team of David S. Goyer (a veteran comic book writer) and director Christopher Nolan (Memento), Batman Begins is a great return to the Frank Miller darkness of the Dark Knight. Christian Bale is the perfect fit for Batman, his acting has always had the intensity needed for this role. Much like Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne. Michael Caine as Alfred provides the needed light heartedness to play opposite Bale's darkness, the love interest, Katie Holmes (Dawson's Creek) is decent enough. Also featuring Gary Oldman as the young police officer Jim Gordon, Morgan Freeman (typecast into yet another authority/father figure) as a Q-like gadgets expert, and Cillian Murphy stands out as the evil Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow.

Overall the movie has a very quick pacing and never leaves one wanting to press "fast forward". As a fan of the Dark Night graphic novels this movie was highly anticipated by yours truly. And quite frankly, I can't wait to add Batman: The Dark Knight the limited edition to complete this collection. Which this disk provides an ample amount of tease for with the exclusive two-minute sneak peek of The Dark Knight DVD, Hollywood Movie Money to see The Dark Knight in theaters (a $7.50 value), a 128MB flash drive including 18 images from The Dark Knight. That alone makes Batman Begins: The Limited Edition worth every penny!
