Review:  Let me tell yeah, with biker babes, midget wrestlers, and sexed crazed monsters, what the hell more can you ask for!  Throw in barrels of blood and gore and you have one of the most over the top sequels since “Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn.” Director John Gulgar and writers Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan reunite to go balls-to-the-wall in this all out monster fest that sharpens the teeth on the “grind” in Grindhouse.

The filmmakers cleverly figure out ways to bring back some characters and deliver some new characters that encompasses three generations of the Gulgar family. I liked what Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino did with their Grindhouse films, but even what these two mavericks of the cinema have done in the genre have not adequately prepare audiences for this irreverent monster rampage. While the filmmakers might have been working at a deficit in terms of the budget there is a wealth of acting talent. From the Gulgar’s to the veteran character actors, the talent just ups the ante of the drama and jaw-dropping moments here. The Gulgar clan in front of the camera is just so perfect. Even the feminine and vulnerable Jenny Wade takes as a pounding and still is ticking just like Ash from the “Evil Dead” films. And that’s taking into consideration these new ballzee
monsters, in more ways than one.

And speaking of monsters and special effects, the filmmakers use every cinematic trick in the book to stuff this sequel to the bursting point of effects, blood, and slime. Bottom line is that most sequels have smaller budgets then their predecessors, but FEAST II looks like a million bucks more. There are more creatures, and an entire sequence of a creature autopsy that is filled with a few surprises.

The DVD extras are lots of fun, and maybe not too informative to an aspiring filmmaker but just to hear everyone talking about how much fun they had you get a sense of the camaraderie that took place on set. The commentary and featurettes add another layer of entertainment to the overall experience of FEAST II.

If there is anything I can be critical of it’s the ending. When the filmmakers set out to make a sequel they pitched it as a trilogy. So as the final showdown is about to happen FEAST II abruptly comes to a close. A tad disappointed, but the only thing I can say about the “Feast 3: The Happy Finish” in early 2009 - BRING IT ON!!!!!
